Kate is a real estate lawyer who helps her commercial and individual clients address their transactional real estate needs. Having obtained her J.D. after diverse post-baccalaureate professional experience, she brings a well-rounded and unique perspective to her practice. Kate offers a blend of legal acumen and client-focused counsel to guide her clients through the legal process to resolve their real estate matters as efficiently and thoroughly as possible.
Kate is a former real estate litigator with both trial and arbitration experience. She brings these skills and knowledge to effectively navigate her clients’ real estate needs and, if necessary, partner with colleagues to develop dispute resolution strategies. Kate has led many clients through the mediation process to a successful resolution of their cases.
Prior to joining Easter & Cavosie in 2025, Kate developed her real estate and construction practice skills as an associate with Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP in downtown Indianapolis and as a solo practitioner in Carmel, Indiana. Before moving to private practice, Kate served as corporate counsel to the nonprofit Foundation to Support Animal Protection in Washington D.C. where she offered the organization guidance on corporate governance and compliance matters.
Outside the office, Kate enjoys spending time with her family and friends, volunteering with her dog, and traveling to Colorado to hike its breathtaking fourteen-thousand-foot peaks.
Real Estate Experience
Kate’s real estate practice includes assisting her commercial and individual clients with drafting property transfer documents and lease agreements, negotiating purchase and sale agreements and construction contracts, and guiding her clients through real estate acquisitions and dispositions.
- In 2025, Kate assisted her general contractor and developer client based in St. Joseph County, Indiana, successfully defeat two invalid mechanic’s liens on two separate commercial development projects located in Georgia and North Carolina.
- In 2024, Kate represented a boutique hotel developer and worked alongside the Carmel Plan Commission to successfully obtain dismissal of a judicial review petition brought by a landowner with a parcel situated adjacent to the hotel’s property.
- In 2024, Kate supported her client in the beauty services industry by offering the necessary advice and drafting the required contract modifications and settlement agreements to resolve a construction contract dispute and a lease agreement dispute with two different parties associated with the same commercial parcel.
- In 2024, Kate helped her general contractor client successfully obtain a favorable result by foreclosing its mechanic’s lien in Marion County, Indiana.
- In 2023, Kate negotiated a resolution for her national transportation solutions provider client in a dispute regarding its lease agreement and right of first refusal to purchase a strip mall in Carmel, Indiana.
- In 2023, Kate facilitated appraisers and surveyors and negotiated a resolution with Franklin County, Indiana, for the county’s taking a portion of her manufacturer client’s commercial property to develop a roundabout.
- In 2022, Kate successfully navigated issues with Indiana’s statute of frauds legal doctrine to redeem her client’s interest in real estate located in Boone County, Indiana, to prepare the property for sale to a commercial developer.
- In 2021, Kate assisted her financial services client by successfully coordinating and marshalling the final contract paperwork and tenant improvement allowance payment to complete a sticky commercial lease and construction matter.
- Kate has supported several landowners in their efforts to successfully partition their real estate held jointly with disputing parties.
- Kate has partnered with dozens of real estate investors and developers to establish their corporate formation documents and create a path forward for growth.
- Kate has participated in over 200 mediations with her clients to successfully resolve their real estate disputes.
