Byrin is an experienced litigator who counsels real estate and construction professionals through complex business disputes. He has successfully helped clients navigate all phases of litigation, including pre-trial motions, discovery, settlement negotiations, and trial proceedings. In addition, Byrin is well-versed in alternative dispute resolution. Having worked closely with clients ranging from individual property owners to large-scale development firms, Byrin understands the unique challenges and complexities inherent in the real estate and construction industries. This allows Byrin to tailor his legal counsel and litigation strategy to each client’s specific needs and objectives. Byrin’s litigation expertise also enables him to provide clients with comprehensive representation in real estate and construction transactions where he brings proactive risk mitigation strategies and strong negotiation skills.

Prior to joining Easter & Cavosie in 2024, Byrin practiced at national and regional firms including an Indianapolis-based AM Law 100 firm and a Southwest-regional AM Law 200 firm. Byrin is licensed to practice in Indiana, California, and Nevada.

Litigation Experience

  • Represented bona fide purchaser in dispute against seller and third-party regarding breach of purchase and sale agreement and conflicting ownership claims by third party
  • Brought suit on behalf of buyer of $6.9 million industrial property against sellers and brokers for fraudulent misrepresentations
  • Facilitated representation of insureds pursuant to title insurance policies
  • Litigated dispute between father and son regarding division of multi-million-dollar real estate portfolio and breach of property management agreement
  • Advised water rights holders in groundwater adjudications
  • Represented large-scale farmer in dispute stemming from $10 million hemp growing project
  • Represented shareholder in multi-company agribusiness partnership dispute including contested corporate dissolution
  • Defended bank against claim of mechanics lien priority
  • Pursued claims against unlicensed contractor
  • Negotiated favorable multi-million-dollar settlements through mediation
  • Represented plaintiffs and defendants in multiple cases involving claims of misappropriation of trade secrets, breach of restrictive covenants, breach of non-disclosure agreements, employee raiding, breach of duty of loyalty, and other unfair competition claims
  • Represented employers and employees in temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction hearings.
  • Acted as trial counsel for life science company in trade secret action
  • Advised payroll company through breach of multi-million-dollar asset purchase agreement
  • Litigated in state and federal courts across the country, including Indiana, California, Michigan, Maryland, New Jersey, Ohio, and Tennessee

Transactional Experience

  • Conducted real estate and water due diligence research as part of property acquisition teams
  • Handled sale of client’s $4 million industrial property
  • Drafted and reviewed commercial leases, master leases, and subleases
  • Advised company on best facility development strategies by assessing project requirements in light of city and county planning documents 
  • Assisted builder in obtaining special tax bonds for development of water infrastructure
  • Drafted restrictive covenants provisions for employment agreements
